SRAM has released a new and even more affordable 12 speed wireless electronic drivetrain, the Rival eTap AXS groupset.
Rival eTap AXS is the third-tier groupset in the SRAM eTap AXS wireless electronic range, sitting below the top of the range Red and the second-tier Force eTap AXS groupsets.
Red, Force and Rival eTap AXS are all 12 speed and use the same eTap shifting logic, which means that you can customize the shifting controls, view the battery status and update firmware via the AXS app. All AXS groupsets are cross-compatible, which allows riders to choose and mix different components from each of the three available groupsets.
Compared to the other eTap groupsets, the Rival eTap AXS groupset is built with heavier materials and therefore weighs approximately 3202g for the 2x option and approximately 2850g for the 1x option, which is almost 700g and 350g heavier than the Red and Force eTap AXS groupsets respectively.
There is a 1x and 2x crankset option available, including a ‘wide’ option for bikes with the widest gravel tyres. There is also an option to upgrade to a Rival crankset with an integrated Quarq power meter hidden inside the DUB crank spindle. The quarq power meter has a battery life of 400+ hours with a user replaceable AAA battery, an accuracy of +/- 3%, is IPX7 waterproof, weighs a little less than 40g more than the standard rival crankset and has ANT+ and Bluetooth connectivity.
