Specialized has officially released the S-Works Tarmac SL8, an ultra-lightweight and aerodynamic all-rounder, perfect for racing.
The new S-Works Tarmac SL8 is lighter, stiffer, more aerodynamic, smoother and even costs less than the outgoing S-Works Tarmac SL7 model.
The Tarmac SL8 frame in size 56cm has a claimed weight of only 685g, a weight saving of approximately 115g compared to the same size S-Works Tarmac SL7, making it the lightest frame in the World Tour.
The stiffness to weight ratio has improved by 33% and is 6% smoother whilst riding compared to the S-Works SL7.
Due to the change in head tube shape, Specialized claim that this is the most aerodynamic bike they have ever made, making it 16.6 seconds faster over 40km. Specialized claim that the new frame is even more aerodynamic than the discontinued all-aero S-Works Venge frame.
Specialized have also made a budget friendly offering of the S-Works Tarmac SL8, simply called the Tarmac SL8. Both frames look identical, however the Tarmac SL8 is made with the lower grade FACT 10r carbon instead of the FACT 12r carbon found in the S-Works Tarmac SL8.
The Tarmac SL8 frame weighs only 780g for a size 56cm, only 95g heavier than the S-Works Tarmac SL8 frame.
The SL8 frames have a 68mm threaded bottom bracket and a tyre clearance of 32mm, which allows for a wide choice of tyres.
The SL8 frames are available in sizes: 44cm, 49cm, 52cm, 54cm, 56cm, 58cm and 61cm.
The SL8 is available as a frameset or as a complete bike.
Prices for complete builds start at £6,000 / €6500 / $6,500 / $9400AUD for the Tarmac SL8 and increase to £12,000 / €14,000 / $14,000 / $19,900 AUD for the top of the range S-Works Tarmac SL8.
