Shimano has officially released new Dura-Ace 9200 and Ultegra 8100 wheelsets.
The Dura-Ace 9200 wheelset range comprises of 36mm, 50mm and 60mm rim depths, with a choice of tubeless-ready disc brake, tubular disc brake and tubular rim brake variants. They are 12-speed compatible only.
The Ultegra 8100 wheelset rims are now carbon fibre with the same shape and 36mm, 50mm and 60mm profiles as the new Dura-Ace range. They will be available in a tubeless disc brake only option and are 11 and 12-speed compatible.
All Dura-Ace and Ultegra wheelset models have an internal rim width of 21mm and an external rim width of 28mm, which are a good fit for the popular 25mm and 28mm tyre sizes.
Shimano have updated the freehubs which now work on a principle similar to DT Swiss’s system, where toothed ratchet rings engage with each other to provide drive and slide past each other to freewheel. This new hub design saves 45g compared to previous Shimano freehubs.
Shimano claim that their new wheelsets are lighter and more aerodynamic than their previous versions of a similar rim depth.
